The story of a majestic lion on a journey to rediscover places and memories. “The Lion is back” is the video mapping project created for the first summer season of “Kilowatt Summer” at the Greenhouses of Giardini Margherita in Bologna.
The lion is the symbol of the city of Bologna, which, during World War II, housed two majestic specimens of the feline at the Giardini Margherita Zoo. For the Greenhouses, we therefore chose to depict the journey of a lion from its Ethiopian horizons to the Emilian weather, to the zoo cage and a utopian liberation.
To celebrate the exploits of the king of the savannah, we created a paint mapping installation, requiring two nights (and two days) to finish the mural. The graffiti technique was not chosen at random: it recalls ancestral memories and constitutes an indelible historical testimony in time, like the lion for the Bolognese. Finally, we mapped and projected the beast in 3D low poly, a modeling technique that uses a low number of polygons and allows animations in line with the latest artistic and video game trends.
