On the occasion of Fuorisalone 2024 we renewed our collaboration with THIA design studio, by taking part planning Corpo Unico, an installation focused on the relationship between light and contemporary art with sculptural works by Salvatore Astore, at the exhibition space set up by Qu in the Brera district.
In Corpo Unico, light, which alludes to the solar cycle , changes exactly as the sun would over the course of the day, illuminating the work from one direction and casting its shadow in the surrounding space.
Thus, starting from this visual interaction between the sunlight and the sculptures was
conceived Solar Resonance site-specific sound project based on generative programming.
It is sound setting based on generative programming through the use of MAX MSP that examines the dynamic relationship between the sun, the environment and sound. The composition uses concrete astronomical and climatic data to create a constantly changing sound environment that reflects solar movements, color temperature changes, and climate variations.
Acoustic elements, such as metallic drones and organic sounds such as breath and heartbeat, merge with Salvatore Astore’s steel sculptures, creating a sensory narrative that adapts in real time to environmental and astronomical stimuli. This integration of art, technology, and nature invites visitors to reflect on the mutual interdependence of life, the solar cycle, and sensory perception, facilitating a unique dialogue between the works, light, and soundscape, further enhanced by the use of astronomical APIs for an ever-changing sound design.
Infinitude. A circular lighting experience
In the exhibition space set up by Qu lighting in the Brera district for Fuorisalone Milan 2023, we created an audio-lighting installation, Infinitude. A circular lighting experience, making use of analog LED strips controlled via MadMapper, and synchronously producing 15 hours of Universe-themed sound track.
The project, an interactive and sound mapping led, was aimed at introducing the client to the company and its products, making them experience light. It was therefore a lighting design and sound art installation, a plunge into sound and light experimentation, a unique opportunity to explore new expressive possibilities, reflecting on the relationship between sound, space and the universe, in collaboration with Giovanni Zampiga of FabbricaFotoGrafica.
We acquired from NASA’s open source database sound samples of the cosmos, which we reworked and mounted in an artistic key with the light show, to animate Qu’s site-specific installations designed by architects Parisotto+Formenton and Lighting Company.
The goal of the performance was to engage the audience in an all-encompassing emotional and sensory journey, guiding them through the courtyard and then inviting them to sit on circular seats, illuminated by pulsating lights that mimicked the alternation of satellites on the orbits of planets. The tour continued in the indoor hall, which housed pieces from the Magritte collection, arranged in luminous constellations with striking aesthetic appeal. The experience ended in the greenhouse, where lights and plants created iridescent atmospheres, reminding us of the permeability that characterizes and unites light and nature.
The sounds evolved throughout the day along with the intensity of the LEDs as the ambient light changed. In fact, the show was divided into four acts: morning, afternoon, sunset and night.
